Twice each year, the organisers of the Shake, Rattle and Roll Weekender at the Vauxhall Holiday Park, Great Yarmouth, very generously give Dell some free tickets, to be given away to listeners.
In Autumn 2003, Jane and John Onslow were among the lucky listeners. This is a message they sent to Dell when they got back:-

Dear Dell As one of the winners of your competition for the Shake Rattle & Roll Weekender, my wife & I would like to say thank you & what a great time we had !!! The chalet was of a very good standard, and the music was even better. The whole weekend was extremely well run & organised. So in return for such a good prize, we think the least we could do is to become bonafide members of your Good Rockin' Tonight club, the cheque will be in the post shortly. Best wishes Jane & John Onslow |

In Spring 2002, the lucky listeners were Chris and Sue Thomson, together with their kids, Alan and Sarah. This is a letter they wrote to Dell and Karen. |
Monday 22nd April
Dear Dell and Karen (and Daniel!)
Hi there! Just got back from The Shake Rattle 'n' Roll weekend at Great Yarmouth and
had to write and say a huge THANKS to Radio Caroline for making it possible.
We hadn't planned to go to this weekender, due to lack of funds - as you know, we're
going to Hemsby in a couple of weeks and are saving hard! - But your offer of free
tickets was too good to miss. I must admit I was initially a bit sceptical, believing
that there's "no such thing as a free lunch" but I was happy to be proved wrong. We
booked in to a luxury six-berth caravan, with full entertainment passes, at no cost
whatsoever!
Chris was working on Friday, so we arrived in time to see the first live band, Phil
Haley and His Comments - A Bill Haley tribute band that were excellent, and had the
huge dance floor packed with jivers in no time.
Following on was Steve's Stack O Wax - one of several DJs appearing over the weekend -
All were excellent playing just the right combination of records to keep the dance
floor heaving.
We were disappointed to miss Johnny Preston live on stage at 11pm. but Alan and Sarah
were exhausted and had to be carried back to our caravan.
The kids woke us for an early start on Saturday. Off to town for bouncy slides, roller
coasters and amusement arcades - The children enjoyed themselves too!!
We just made it back in time to see Darrel Higham performing alone, then alongside
Graham Fenton. We've always been fans of Darrel, and he didn't let us down - Even
though it was the middle of the afternoon the room was packed, and he put on a fantastic
performance - 10 out of 10 Darrel !!
We stayed to listen to some more records and check out the numerous CD and Clothing
stalls surrounding the room. It was all much too tempting and Chris spent more than
planned! Then it was back to the caravan - via the adventure playground and burger
bar - for a brief rest before the next band.
Good Rockin' Tonight were next on stage, with a good assortment of covers from various
artists, and then it was back to Wildcat Pete for more boppers and jivers before Marty
Wilde took the stage at 10pm. Again it was a little too late for Alan and Sarah and we
had to leave before the end, but judging by the singing going past our window at 2am.
A good time was had by all !!
Sunday morning came all too soon and we knew we had to be heading home for work on
Monday. However, we had to check out the club one last time. We stayed to see The
Persuaders on stage at 2:30. Despite there being a less than average crowd - Perhaps
everybody was still recovering - they put on a good show, and still managed to fill
the dance floor.
We were sorry to miss The Jets, who were playing later that night, but we'd already
stayed longer than planned and so we waved a farewell to Vauxhall, our appetites
seriously whetted for Hemsby in May.
Once again, a huge Thanks to you, and Vauxhall, for giving us the free tickets. The
only downside to the whole weekend was having to miss your show on Friday - Couldn't
work out how to set up the satellite receiver, video recorder and tape deck in time!
Hope all's well! Take care! See you at Hemsby!
SUE & CHRIS (Of course, not forgetting Alan & Sarah)
